President Jokowi has carried out a reshuffle of his Indonesia Maju Cabinet as his term approaches its end in 2024.

Jokowi inaugurated a new minister, five deputy ministers, and two members of the President’s Advisory Council at the State Palace on Monday, July 17, 2023.

One of the newly appointed Deputy Ministers is Rosan Roeslani, serving as the Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises.

Rosan’s background

Previously, Rosan served as the 21st Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the United States, inaugurated on October 25, 2021. However, this 54-year-old individual has a background in the business world.

In the early stages of his career, Rosan explored various positions in the business and entrepreneurial community. He served as the Financial Advisor to the Indonesian Batik Cooperative Association (1997-2002) and the Deputy Treasurer-General of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (2005-2008). Rosan also served as the Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry/KADIN (2015-2021).

In 1996, together with Sandiaga Uno and Elvin Ramli, he initiated a venture as a financial advisor. The company was officially established in 1997 under the name PT Republik Indonesia Funding, better known as Finance Indonesia.

Finance Indonesia later changed its name to Recapital in 2002. Rosan spearheaded the expansion of the company’s business lines. Recapital, primarily operating in finance and banking, expanded its reach into various sectors, including mining, infrastructure, property, media, and communication.

Minister Erick comments on Rosan’s appointment

Erick stated that Rosan’s credibility and capabilities need no doubt. His extensive experience in the financial industry, including as a banker, Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), and Indonesian Ambassador to the United States, speaks for itself.

It is hoped that Rosan’s appointment will drive state-owned enterprises to become competitive international players. Erick believes that Rosan, with his background in the industry and his most recent role as the Ambassador to the United States, will bring a fresh perspective to the future transformation of state-owned enterprises.

Replacing Rosan

With Rosan’s appointment as the new Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, the position of Indonesian Ambassador to the United States has become vacant.

There are rumors that Wishnutama will replace Rosan Roeslani as the Indonesian Ambassador to the United States.

Wishnutama’s name is quite familiar to the public. His involvement in the television industry has made him widely known. In 2019, he was appointed by President Jokowi as the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy. Unfortunately, his tenure only lasted until 2020, and in 2021 he served as a Commissioner of PT Telekomunikasi Seluler (Mobile Telecommunications).
