The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Task Force for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens Abroad, in collaboration with the Indonesian Embassies in Bangkok and Yangon, evacuated 169 more Indonesian citizens from Myawaddy, Myanmar on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.

“The majority of the evacuees hail from North Sumatra, West Java, Jakarta, Riau Islands, and North Sulawesi,” the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

All the 169 Indonesians are reported to be in good health. They consist of 149 men and 20 women − one is pregnant.

Following the same procedure as previous evacuations, the Indonesian citizens were transported by land on a 10-hour journey from Maesot to Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok. They were scheduled to arrive at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten on Wednesday morning, March 19, 2025.

With this latest operation, a total of 569 Indonesian citizens trapped in online scams had been evacuated from Myawaddy within two days. Upon arrival in Jakarta, the evacuees would be accommodated at the Pondok Gede Haj Dormitory in East Jakarta for interviews, rehabilitation, and counseling before returning to their respective home regions.

As previously reported, a total of 400 Indonesian citizens, who were victims of online scam exploitation in Myawaddy were evacuated from the Myanmar conflict area on March 17, 2025.

The evacuees were transported across the 2nd Friendship Bridge to Maesot, Thailand. After undergoing health screenings and the National Referral Mechanism process, they embarked on a 10-hour journey by land using nine buses to Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok. From there, they were flown back to Indonesia via a chartered flight.

The smooth evacuation process was made possible through intensive coordination and full support from the Thai and Myanmar authorities.
