Hasan Nasbi has officially resigned from his position as Head of the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), ending his eight-month tenure as the government’s chief communicator.

His resignation letter was submitted to President Prabowo Subianto through the State Secretary and the Cabinet Secretary.

In a video published by Total Politik podcast on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. Hasan confirmed that he signed and tendered his resignation on April 21, 2025.

He emphasized that the decision was not made in haste, but rather upon careful consideration.

“I have come to a very mature conclusion – that it is time to get off the pitch and sit in the stands. It is time to allow someone better to take over,” he said.

Hasan expressed gratitude to President Prabowo for the trust placed in him, calling his role in the Red-and-White Cabinet “an honor and a source of pride.” He apologizedshould have his performance had fallen short of expectations.

In his resignation statement, Hasan stressed that he would assist with the leadership transition at PCO and confirmed that he had ceased all official duties as of April 21.

His departure follows weeks of speculation, which he had previously denied. On April 16, 2025, he told reporters he was still working and had even signed off on an assignment for his team to study communication practices at the Prime Minister’s Office in Australia.

Hasan’s term as communications chief included the appointment of several prominent spokespersons: Philips Vermonte, Adita Irawati, Ujang Komaruddin, Prita Laura, Dedek Prayudi, and Hariqo Wibawa Satria. Together with a team of special staff and policy experts, they handled key messaging for the Prabowo administration.

Controversy

However, his time in office was marred by controversy. In March 2025, Tempo journalist Francisca Christy Rosana received a severed pig's head from an unidentified sender in an act of intimidation. Responding to the incident, Hasan controversially remarked that the head should simply be cooked, a statement widely criticized as insensitive.

He later clarified that his comments were meant to reflect Francisca’s own defiant attitude in facing the intimidation. “I rarely agree with Tempo, but I admired the way she responded,” he said on March 22, 2025.

President Prabowo also addressed the matter, calling Hasan’s comments “reckless” and acknowledging that the communication team had made a misstep. “I believe he regrets it,” Prabowo said, suggesting Hasan was still adjusting to the demands of public office after a career in planning and consultancy.
