PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), the upstream subholding of Pertamina, posted better operational results in the first quarter of 2025, recording an oil and gas production level of 1.043 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (BOEPD), a slight increase from 1.042 million BOEPD in the same period last year.

As of March 2025, PHE completed the drilling of five exploration wells, 206 development wells, 248 workovers, and 9,207 well services. These activities mark an improvement from the first quarter of 2024, which saw three exploration wells, 163 development wells, 219 workovers, and 8,323 well services completed.

“These achievements reflect our consistent strategy to accelerate production growth while maintaining national energy security,” PHE President Director Chalid Said Salim said as quoted in a statement on Friday, May 2, 2025.

The company’s performance was further supported by several strategic milestones, including the acceleration of production from the Akasia Prima exploration well, the appraisal discovery at East Pondok Aren-2, gas streaming at Sumber-1A well, and injection operations in the North Duri Development Area-14 using enhanced oil recovery (EOR) steamflood methods.

In exploration, PHE conducted a 3D seismic survey covering 373 square kilometers. The company also booked 42.75 million BOE of contingent (2C) resources in Q1, consisting of 28.19 million barrels of oil and 84.33 billion standard cubic feet (BSCF) of gas.

Moreover, PHE discovered 12.41 million BOE in proven (P1) reserves, including 3.50 million barrels of oil and 51.62 BSCF of gas.

PHE reaffirmed its investment commitment to upstream oil and gas development, with an emphasis on sustainability and governance. The company has adopted the ISO 37001:2016-certified Anti-Bribery Management System (SMAP) as part of its zero-tolerance policy toward bribery and fraud.

“Our goal is to become a world-class oil and gas company that operates responsibly and professionally, both in Indonesia and abroad, upholding environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and good governance,” Chalid said.
