Chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN), Zulkifli Hasan, has announced that the party is open to the possibility of nominating a party cadre as a vice presidential candidate in the  2029 presidential-vice presidential election.

Zulkifli, however, stressed that PAN would continue to support incumbent President Prabowo Subianto if he would seek reelection in the 2029 political event.

His statement on potentially nominating a party cadre for vice presidency significantly indicating that PAN would not fully support incumbent Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka if he is to contest in the 2029 election.

"I also told Pak Prabowo, 'Sir, my party is big. That's the most important thing. If it's about presidential candidacy, [you just] go ahead. If it's about a candidate for vice presidency, we'll talk'. Yes, we'll talk," Zulkifli said on the sidelines of the post-Ramadhan gathering at PAN headquarters on Sunday, April 20, 2025.

He cited that the decision was taken because PAN is an ally of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) led by Prabowo and that PAN will continue to support Prabowo even if necessary until 2045. He did not specify what he meant with the year 2045, but it is apparently associated with the 100th anniversary of Indonesia’s independence and the targeted achievement of Golden Indonesia Vision 2045.

Gerindra, on the other hand, decided in February that it would again nominate Prabowo as president in the 2029 presidential election.

Zulkifli also gave an opportunity for his cadres who wanted to run as Vice Presidential Candidates, if they had the desire and sincerity.

He also revealed that PAN already had a strategy to realize the ambition of becoming the 4th largest party in 2029.

The target of the top four in the 2029 General Election contestation received support from the performance of PAN cadres in several institutions, both legislative and executive.

"I believe, I am convinced, the top four, it is not impossible, we will achieve it," Zulkifli said.
