Indonesian Air Force Chief of Staff, Air Marshal M. Tonny Harjono opened the Angkasa Yudha 2024 Exercise at the Air Force Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta on Monday, November 4, 2024, aimed at testing operational readiness of the air force in protecting the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) and the surrounding vital objects.

This annually held exercise is held in response to increasingly complex challenges, including cyber threats and developments in modern military technology.

Air Chief Marshal Tonny Harjono said this exercise plays an important role in preparing the Indonesian Air Force to deal with security threats around the IKN, which will later become the center of Indonesian governance.

“The strategic position of the IKN, close to the land borders of other countries and the Indonesian Archipelago Sea Lane (ALKI), requires the Indonesian Air Force to develop forces capable of guaranteeing security of the capital city from all forms of threats,” he said.

The exercise includes scenarios that test operational readiness in various fields, including intelligence, operations, logistics, communications, and cyber. Collaboration between various elements is considered important to realize the vision of the Indonesian Air Force as AMPUH (Adaptive, Modern, Professional, Superior, Humanist).

The 2024 Angkasa Yudha Exercise is divided into several stages, starting from the Command Post Rehearsal on November 4-8, 2024 at the Air Force Staff and Command School (Seskoau) and at First, Second and Third Air Force Operation Commands. Furthermore, War Gaming will be held on November 18-20, followed by Field Rehearsals at several Indonesian Air Bases, including Iswahjudi Air Base in Madiun, East Java, and Abdulrachman Saleh Malang Air Base in Malang, also in East Java. The exercise will be closed with a Fire Power Demo at the AWR Pandanwangi Air Weapon Range (AWR) in Lumajang, East Java.

A total of 2,500 personnel, 56 aircraft, and various defense equipment such as radar and tactical vehicles will be involved in this exercise.
