PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, a subsidiary of State oil and gas company PT Pertamina, has strengthened its commitment to sustainability by securing the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) for its Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) under the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) and the Renewable Energy Directive-European Union (RED-EU).

This milestone makes Pertamina Patra Niaga the first Southeast Asian operator to offer ISCC-certified SAF, marking a significant step toward reducing carbon emissions in the aviation industry.

Maya Kusmaya, Director of Central Marketing and Commerce at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, emphasized that this certification is a testament to the company’s dedication to supporting the transition to more environmentally friendly fuels.

“This is a historic milestone for the regional energy industry, opening opportunities for airlines in Indonesia and beyond to use fuels that significantly reduce their carbon footprint,” Maya said on August 22, 2024..

The ISCC certification positions Pertamina Patra Niaga as the first operator in Southeast Asia to market ISCC-certified Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

The certification was formally presented by Ryanza Prasetya, CEO of PT Qualitas Sertifikat Indonesia, to Maya Kusmaya on August 19, 2024.

The certificate presentation took place during the “Paving the Way to Net Zero: HVO & SAF” event, themed “Driving Change Through Renewable Fuels,” hosted by Pertamina and attended by Salyadi Saputra, Director of Strategy, Portfolio, and Business Development at PT Pertamina.

The certification enables customers to claim reduced carbon emissions from using SAF produced by Pertamina.

“In addition to the ISCC certification for SAF, Pertamina has also received certification for Used Cooking Oil (UCO) and Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) products. This allows our customers to claim the carbon emission reductions achieved by using these fuels,” Maya said.

The Aviation Fuel Terminal (AFT) in Ngurah Rai, Bali, and the Soekarno-Hatta Aviation Fuel Terminal & Hydrant Installation (SHAFTHI) in Jakarta are the first locations to receive ISCC CORSIA and ISCC EU certifications.

The strategic location of AFT Ngurah Rai is set to support the Bali International Air Show 2024, which is expected to further expand the use of Pertamina’s SAF in the international aviation market.

“Pertamina Patra Niaga is committed to leading innovation and sustainability, partnering with airlines to create a greener and more sustainable future,” Maya said.

Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Pertamina Vice President of Corporate Communication, highlighted the company’s ongoing efforts to expand the use of environmentally friendly fuels to reduce carbon emissions.

“Various decarbonization initiatives have been implemented by Pertamina to achieve the Net Zero Emission target by 2060 or sooner,” Fadjar said.
