President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday, August 19, 2024, reshuffled cabinet and appointed three heads of government bodies just weeks before he will leave office.

The cabinet reshuffle is based on Presidential Decree No. 92/P/2024 on the termination and appointment of Onward Indonesia Cabinet for 2019-2024
period and Presidential Decree No. 52/M/2024 on the appointment of deputy minister of communication and informatics.

The ministers who were appointed on Monday were Law and Human Right Minister Supratman Andi Atgas, who replaced Yasonna Laoly; Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, who replaced Arifin Tasrif; Head of Investment Coordinating Board/Minister of Investment Rosan Roeslani, who replaced Bahlil Lahadalia, while the appointed Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics was Angga Raka Prabowo.

On the occasion, Jokowi also appointed Dadan Hindayana as Head of the Nutrition Body, Hasan Nasbi as Head of the Presidential Communication Agency, Taruna Ikrar as Head of Food and Drug Agency.

“The appointment of ministers, deputy ministers, head of government bodies is needed to prepare and support government transition and make the government run smooth, well and effective,” Presidential palace senior official, Ari Dwipayana, said as quoted by tempo.co on Monday, August 19, 2024.

Senior official of Gerindra Party and aide to President-elect Prabowo Subianto, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, said there are many things that need to be synchronized by Jokowi, and it needs acceleration to smooth the government transition.

Change in the Onward Indonesia Cabinet composition was conducted ahead of the end of President Jokowi’s tenure. Earlier on July 18, 2024, Jokowi replaced two deputy ministers by appointing two close circles of Prabowo − Thomas Djiwandono and Sudaryono as deputy minister of finance and deputy minister of agriculture.
