Amman − Indonesian MInister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto, held a meeting with US Secretary of State Antony John Blinken, in Amman, Jordan, on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, discussing efforts to seek a peaceful solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict.
In the meeting, Prabowo conveyed that Indonesia welcomed the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2735 proposed by US President Biden with a three-phase proposal for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
Indonesia also appreciates the mediation efforts made by the US, Egypt, and Qatar.
“Indonesia is ready to work with the US, Egypt, and Qatar to ensure the negotiations continue and realise a permanent ceasefire and a just and lasting peace in Palestine. An immediate, full, and comprehensive ceasefire is essential to revive the peace process,” he said.
International support is needed for Palestine to realize its statehood and nation-building, including strengthening its government, providing assistance for recovery, and towards its membership in the UN.
Meanwhile, Secretary Blinken thanked Indonesia for its support of the ceasefire proposal and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to implementing the US-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
“We are grateful for Indonesia’s support of the proposal to immediately achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and secure the release of all hostages,” he said.
