Singapore − Indonesian Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto told an international forum held in Singapore on Saturday, June 1, 2024 that Indonesia will continue to provide assistance to Gaza and is ready if needed and requested by the United Nations to send peacekeeping troops in the Palestinian territory.
“I would like to highlight the latest tragic events in Rafah that have caused many innocent lives, including children, women, and unarmed civilians. This heartbreaking incident compels us to urgently call for a thorough investigation into this humanitarian disaster,” Prabowo said as he addressed the Special Session of the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue 2024 Forum in Singapore on Saturday.
“We are also ready to immediately send medical personnel to operate field hospitals in Gaza with the approval of all parties. Indonesia is also very willing to evacuate and treat wounded Palestinians who need treatment in Indonesian hospitals. We are willing to evacuate up to 1,000 patients in the near future if the situation allows,” he added.
He said further that Indonesia is committed to supporting a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire as an important step towards a real and lasting solution for peace between Israel and Palestine, and thus real peace in the region.
“We believe that along with many other countries in the world today, the only real solution for lasting peace and security for Israel and Palestine is a two-state solution,” the Indonesian minister said.
Prabowo highlighted a number of strategic global security issues that are of concern to the world today.
According to him, collaboration is the only way to achieve prosperity and harmony. Indonesia is firmly committed to deepening inclusive dialogue and concrete cooperation, as well as upholding international law, especially respecting the national sovereignty of all states and territorial integrity as mandated in the United Nations Charter.
While highlighting conflicts especially in Ukraine and Palestine, Prabowo stressed the importance of diplomatic dialogue and national solidarity.
“Nationalism must be balanced with humanity. Patriotism must be tempered with wisdom and respect for all citizens of the world. Let us work towards the common good,” he concluded.
