Which parties qualify and not qualify for 2024 elections?

The General Elections Commission (KPU) has named 17 national political parties and 6 Aceh local parties, which are qualified for the 2024 General Elections. Indonesia will hold a simultaneous elections on February 14, 2024, to elect lawmakers, representative councillors and president/vice president as well as governors and mayors/regents.

KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy’ari made the announcement on December 14, 2022, during a public plenary session for drawing and deciding political party numbers.

  • National Awakening Party (PKB)
  • Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra)
  • Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P)
  • Golkar Party
  • National Democratic Party (Nasdem)
  • Labor Party
  • Indonesian People’s Wave Party (Gelora)
  • Social Justice Party (PKS)
  • Nusantara Awakening Party (PKN)
  • People’s Conscience Party (Hanura)
  • Garuda Party
  • National Mandate Party (PAN)
  • Crescent Star Party (PBB)
  • Democratic Party (PD)
  • Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI)
  • United Indonesia Party (Perindo)
  • United Development Party (PPP)

Aceh political parties

  • Nangroe Aceh Party (PNA)
  • Generasi Atjeh Beusaboh Tha’at dan Taqwa Party (Gabthat)
  • Darul Aceh Party (PDA)
  • Aceh Party
  • Aceh Justice and Prosperous Party (PAS Aceh)
  • Aceh People’s Independence Solidity Party (SIRA)

The six political parties will contest to elect their representatives for the Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD I) and Regional Legislative Council (DPRD II).

Parties failed to qualify

In total, the KPU recorded 40 political parties had registered for the 2024 elections. With only 17 qualified for the elections, the dissatisfied parties protested the KPU’s decision, calling it as “Political Genocide”.
