Indonesian satellite company, PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN), is partnering with Bengaluru-based navigation product manufacturer, Elena Geo Tech Pvt Ltd, to develop Indonesia’s satellite-based Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) system.
Satrio Adiwicaksono, PSN’s Technology Director, said that as a 33-year-old national company focused on communication services, PSN is continuously evolving to offer satellite-based services.
“With our extensive track record and the significant potential in the satellite industry, PSN is expanding into the navigation field,” he said in a media statement as quoted on Monday, July 8, 2024.
Through international collaboration with Elena, Satrio mentioned that PSN is committed to strengthening the space ecosystem by enhancing Indonesia’s satellite manufacturing capabilities, particularly in satellite-based PNT.
He added that the PNT system will be independently managed and is expected to support the government in fostering economic independence in the national satellite industry.
The partnership between PSN and Elena was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the India Space New Congress in New Delhi, India.
CEO of PSN, Adi Rahman Adiwoso, said that the decision to collaborate with Elena was based on the company’s proven track record in satellite-based navigation system manufacturing and the advanced state of India’s satellite industry.
He highlighted that India’s progress in the satellite industry is due to strong government support, leading to the development of the Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) system by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
“These factors strongly influenced our decision to collaborate with Elena. We aim to leverage this opportunity for technology transfer, enabling Indonesia to eventually develop its own satellite-based PNT system,” Adi said.
He said further that the satellite navigation system developed with Elena will be applied to sectors such as transportation services, air and sea navigation, and defense.
“By implementing satellite navigation in Indonesia, all sectors requiring PNT will benefit from accurate positioning, speed, direction, and timing, thus achieving high precision and efficiency,” he concluded.
