The Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas) in collaboration with the Contractor Partnership Contract (KKKS) PT Prima Energi Bawean (PEB) has completed a series of reactivation activities in the Camar Field, located in the Bawean Working Area (WK).

This field, situated north of the East Java Sea, approximately 90 kilometers from Surabaya, had been inactive for three years. As the sole operator of the Camar Field in the Bawean WK, PEB secured a Cost Recovery Production Sharing Contract (PSC) through a Direct Offer Tender for Oil and Gas effective from December 15, 2022, committing to production within one year.

PEB fulfilled this commitment by completing the reactivation of the Central Processing Platform, which included the activation of production facilities, installation of supporting production facilities, and obtaining related permits, in approximately one year.

Hudi D. Suryodipuro, Head of Program and Communication Division at SKK Migas, said the task force has been pushing PEB to ensure that the field development plans are implemented according to the predetermined timeline.

“The progress achieved is a result of SKK Migas’ efforts to accelerate the reactivation of the Camar Field since the government awarded this block in December 2022. One of the accelerations includes the transfer of the Single Point Mooring (SPM) Asset from Pertamina,” Hudi said in a media statement on March 22, 2024.

He commended PEB’s commitment to executing the existing programs to revive the Camar Field, adding, “We also encourage PEB to actively engage in programs to increase production and conduct exploration programs to optimize the oil and gas potential in the WK.”

PEB has taken the initiative to boost production from the Camar Field by commencing the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) study and procurement stage for project facility components for the reactivation of other platforms, such as the Monopod Platform (MPA). This phase is expected to be completed by the third quarter of this year.

Currently, PEB is actively involved in discussions and preparations for the reactivation of the MPA platform, which will activate old wells such as CM-6 and MPA-1, as well as drilling wells CW-1 and CW-2 at the MPA location, planned for the third and fourth quarters of 2024. Additionally, drilling of CS-5 and CS-6 is planned for 2025 at the CPP location. With the planned activities, the estimated production volume of the Camar Field could reach 3,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) by 2025.

Meanwhile, Pieters Utomo, CEO of Prima Energi, affirmed that PEB will continue to coordinate and synergize collectively in carrying out the series of reactivation projects in the Camar Field.

“It is hoped that the smoothness and success of this project will contribute positively to the country, especially to the Upstream Oil and Gas Industry in Indonesia,” Pieters said.

In terms of exploration, PEB remains committed to developing the Tuban area within the southern part of the Bawean Working Area, where a seismic survey covering 300 km2 is planned. It is expected that this area holds potential resources of 622 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMBOE) Oil In Place.
