The endeavor for energy exploration in Indonesia takes another leap forward as PetroChina International Jabung Ltd., under its Contractor Cooperation Contract with the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas), initiates drilling operations for the NEB BASEMENT-3 exploration well on March 16, 2024.

Situated within the expansive and promising Jabung Block area in Jambi province, this strategic move underscores a pivotal step towards realizing Indonesia’s energy aspirations.

The NEB BASEMENT-3 well, strategically located within the Northeast Betara Field of South Sumatra, embodies PetroChina’s commitment to harnessing the untapped potential of Indonesia’s hydrocarbon reserves. Employing state-of-the-art drilling technologies, including the Rig GW-265 (2000 HP), PetroChina aims to delve deep into the geological formations, probing the basement rocks to unearth valuable oil and gas reservoirs.

With a meticulously planned trajectory, the NEB BASEMENT-3 well is designed with a slanted/angled hole configuration, allowing for comprehensive exploration of the subsurface strata. Anticipating a final depth of 10,431 ftMD, PetroChina’s experts remain poised to navigate the complexities of the subterranean landscape, guided by cutting-edge seismic data and geological insights.

Beyond mere extraction, this ambitious exploration initiative harbors broader implications for Indonesia’s energy landscape. As the nation strives to enhance its energy security and bolster domestic production capacities, PetroChina’s jump into the Jabung Block represents a significant stride towards achieving these goals.
