PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) is refining the development scenarios for the GQX oil prospect, which is part of the Offshore North West Java (ONWJ) Block.

“The development scenario will consider the results of the current reserve studies,” Corporate Secretary of Pertamina Hulu Energi, Arya Dwi Paramita, told Bisnis.com on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

The ONWJ Block is one of the oldest oil and gas fields in Indonesia. It has been in operation since 1966 and is still producing to this day.

The Zulu prospect, identified since 1974, is estimated to contain large-scale oil and gas reserves. The same goes for the GQX prospect.

The ONWJ Block stretches from the Thousand Islands regency of Jakarta province to North Cirebon in West Java. The working area of ONWJ covers an area of 8,279.29 square kilometers.

This oil and gas block is operated by PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore North West Java (PHE ONWJ). With the significant potential of oil and gas reserves in these two prospects, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is pushing Pertamina to conduct further exploration and exploitation of their assets in ONWJ.

“The GQX exploration wells located in the PHE ONWJ working area are one of the prospects currently under study,” Arya said.

As reported earlier, the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas) is awaiting the plan of development (PoD) for the GQX Complex prospect prepared by PHE.

Head of the Program and Communication Division of SKK Migas, Hudi Suryodipuro, said that PHE is still conducting geological, geophysical, reservoir, and production (GGRP) studies to calculate the detailed reserves of the oil field as the basis for submitting the PoD.

“Currently, PHE ONWJ is still conducting GGRP studies until 2025 to calculate the detailed oil reserve values,” Hudi said on April 4, 2024.

Hudi cited that their agency is still awaiting fresh studies from PHE to assess the potential commercial reserves worthy of further development in the PoD document.
