Indonesia and the Netherlands have agreed to collaborate in creative economy industry. Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dutch State Secretary of Education, Culture and Science Gunay Uslu in Jakarta on September 15, 2022.
The MoU encourages cooperation through multiple creative industries including culinary, architecture, product design, interior design, film, music, TV, radio, game development, applications, Over-The-Top (OTT) media service, digital transformation and publishing.
Uno hoped the collaboration would achieve Indonesia’s target of creating 1.1 million new jobs in 2022 and 4.4 million new jobs in 2024. He will follow up the cooperation by setting up a working group that initially focuses on developing film, games and culinary sub-sectors.
This cooperation is also expected to increase tourism potential and invite more Dutch tourists to heritage-based or history-based tourism.
“With this agreement, we aim to strengthen – among others – our cooperation in fields like film, new media, architecture and design. I believe that Indonesia and the Netherlands can really learn from each other’s experience and perspectives,” Uslu said.
In 2019, Indonesia had pushed for a cooperation when Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) Deputy Chairman Ricky Joseph Pesik encouraged the Dutch creative economy entrepreneurs to see Indonesia and ASEAN as their potential partners in the ASEAN Business Forum in The Hague, the Netherlands, on June 24, 2019.
