Oil and gas company PT Prima Energi Bawean (PEB) has started drilling in two development wells, namely CW (Camar West) – 1 & CW (Camar West) – 2, located in the Camar Field, Bawean Working Area, Offshore East Java.

“We would like to thank the Upstream Oil and Gas Regiulatory Task Force (SKK Migas) for their consistent support and strong collaboration with other contractors, such as BP and PHE OSES as well as all service companies. We hope that this drilling activity can run smoothly, effectively, efficiently, and still prioritize work safety and environmental protection,” Prima Energy CEO, Pieters Utomo, said as quoted in the company’s media statement on Thursday, October 24, 2024.

This step is part of PEB’s commitment to increasing national oil production. Drilling began on October 23, 2024 and will last for 65 days.

As the operator managing the Camar Field, PEB obtained a Production Cost Sharing (PSC) contract with a Cost Recovery scheme through the Direct Offer Tender Oil and Gas mechanism which has been effective since December 15, 2022.

After successfully carrying out the Central Processing Platform (CPP) reactivation activity in February 2024, PEB will drill two development wells CW-1 and CW-2, and carry out Monopod Platform A (MPA) reactivation activities and pipeline deployment from MPA to CPP.

The drilling location is at a water depth of around 64 meters below sea level. CW-1 Well will be drilled to the west with a total depth of 1,986 meters (6,516 feet), while CW-2 Well will be drilled to the north with a total depth of 1,547 meters (5,076 feet).

The main target of this drilling is the Masalembo Sand formation, with the second target in the Kujung II Lower Limestone formation. To increase time and cost efficiency, both wells will be drilled in batches, because the drilling activities of both wells use adjacent well slots in one caisson in the MPA.

By reactivating the MPA platform that activates old wells such as CM-6, as well as drilling development wells CW-1 and CW-2, it is expected that the estimated production volume from the Camar Field can reach 2,200 Barrel of Oil Per Day (BOPD), with additional reserves of 1.6 Million Stock Tank Barrels (MMstb).

Additional production from this field is expected to contribute to national energy security in the long term.

PEB’s strategy by carrying out drilling and well workover activities will increase the production period in the Bawean WK so that it is expected to extend the life of the field and expand the portfolio so that it can continue exploration activities in the Tuban area.

Meanwhile, Production at Camar Field in Bawean Working Area first started in 1991 and operated until 2021.

Drilling of CM-1 well in 1982 with test results of 3,100 bopd of oil 36° API and 9.7 MMcfd of gas. Camar Field was then developed and started producing oil in 1991 from 6 wells located in the Kujung II Lower Limestones formation, with peak production of 10,000 BOPD.
