A labor union of mining and energy industry has called on the Ministry of Industry to visit and hold an investigation into the recent work accident within the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) in Morowali regency, Central Sulawesi.

“We are very happy to meet with officials of the Ministry of Industry and provide information that we get from the incident, including from the victim, ” Chairman of the Labor Union of Mining and Energy Industry at IMIP, Henri told Indonesia Business Post on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

“We hope that there will be thorough investigation into the incident, involving various related parties,” he said.

Two workers of PT Indonesia Tsingshan Stainless Steel (ITSS), one of the tenants at the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park, were rushed to the Park’s clinic facility after they were exposed to ferronickel hot steam at around 10 pm local time on Thursday, June 13, 2024.

The two victims, however, are reported to be in better condition after they were treated at the Bungku Hospital in Morowali.

As previously reported by viva.co.id, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita has expressed regret of the recurring incident in PT ITSS.

“The inspection team from the Ministry of Industry had earlier recommended measures for improvement after the fatal explosion in December 2023 which claimed lives,” Agus said in a statement on Saturday, June 15, 2024.
