Kaesang Pangarep, the second son of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, raised many questions after he was seen wearing a t-shirt with a picture of Prabowo Subianto, Jokowi’s previous rival at the 2019 Presidential Election, during a podcast episode broadcasted on Youtube. The action triggered various responses.

Jokowi’s eldest son and Mayor of Solo Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who is Kaesang’s brother, said that he had no idea why his brother did such a gesture. Gibran explained that Kaesang knows Prabowo. However, he added that it does not mean that the action reflects Kaesang’s political stance for the upcoming presidential election.

Meanwhile, Indonesian netizens commented that Kaesang was looking for support to run as the Mayor of Depok although there has been no confirmation regarding this information.

Kaesang’s action also received comments from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle politician Hendrawan. Hendrawan asserted that the action was done to attract public attention. Hendrawan also commented on Kaesang’s action when Prabowo visited Jokowi’s house during Eid Al-Fitr.

Back then, a photograph of Kaesang assisting Prabowo in preparing a meal also attract many attention. Concerning the action during Eid Al-Fitr, Hendrawan said that it was just a normal and proper gesture from a young-adult to a more elderly person, and that it is part of Javanese culture and manners.
