The Indonesian Air Force has planned to purchase Bayraktar TB2 drones at about US$2-5 million (Rp32-81billion) from Turkey for Indonesian military operations.
This decision follows a visit by the Indonesian Air Foce Chief of Staff, Air Chief Marshal Mohammad Tony Harjono, to assess the feasibility and performance of the drone.
In addition, the TNI AU also plans to purchase the Bayraktar Type 2 drone, an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) with Medium Altitude Long Endurange (MALE) capabilities and Line of Sight (LOS) and Beyond Line of Sight (BILOS) functions.
According to Tony, this drone is very suitable for surveillance and reconnaissance missions, thus providing significant benefits to existing Indonesian Air defense systems.
Bayraktar TB2 is a tactical UAV, equipped with a ground control station, ground data terminal, remote display terminal, and advanced basic module. This drone is also included in the MALE category which is capable of carrying out intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), and armed attack missions.
Meanwhile, Bayraktar has been used in the Syrian, Libyan, and Karabakh combat zones. This drone has shown its effectiveness and capability in air defense in various operational areas. Meanwhile, the Bayraktar TB2 drone has been exported to countries such as Ukraine, Qatar, Libya, and Azerbaijan.
