Jakarta leadership candidate pair Pramono Anung and Rano Karno held a grand, final campaign rally at the Madya Stadium, Senayan, Central Jakarta on Saturday, November 23, 2024.

The event saw the attendance of former Jakarta governors Fauzi Bowo (2007–2012) and Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok, 2015–2017), alongside political party leaders and supporters.

Notably absent was Anies Baswedan, Jakarta’s governor from 2017 to 2022, despite his public endorsement of Pramono-Rano at a previous campaign event in Blok S, South Jakarta on Thursday, November 21, 2024.

Pramono said that Anies’ support and the presence of Sutiyoso, another former governor (1997–2007), were represented through their respective families and allies.

“Joining us here today is Bang Foke [Fauzi Bowo], who made significant contributions during his tenure, and Ahok. Also present are the families of Mas Anies Baswedan and Bang Yos [Sutiyoso],” Pramono said in his speech as quoted by Antara on Saturday, November 23, 2024.

The rally featured Betawi-themed music performances by local artists, attracting a crowd that began gathering at the Gelora Bung Karno area as early as 7 a.m.

Pramono expressed gratitude to attendees, including Jakmania, the Persija Jakarta football club fan group, who showed their support.

“I will work tirelessly with Bang Doel [Rano Karno] to serve all of you,” Pramono yelled to the crowds.

Rival campaign

On the same day, gubernatorial candidate Ridwan Kamil (RK) and his running mate Suswono held a campaign rally at Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta.

Ridwan, the former Governor of West Java, reaffirmed his commitment to protecting and uplifting all residents of Jakarta, regardless of their background.

“We come with pure intentions to take care of you, to care for your children, and to protect all religions, ethnicities, and communities in Jakarta,” Ridwan told the crowds.

Highlighting his campaign’s adherence to Pancasila principles, Ridwan pledged to ensure the freedom and facilitation of religious practices for all faiths.

“Rido [Ridwan and Suswono] stands on the foundation of Pancasila. All religious groups will be protected, their places of worship facilitated, and their social-religious activities safeguarded,” he added.

Ridwan also laid out a series of initiatives aimed at improving quality of life in Jakarta. These include offering free private schooling, continuing the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) program for education assistance, increasing operational budgets for neighborhood (RT/RW) activities, and expanding community health and welfare programs like Posyandu and Dasawisma.
