The U.S. under President Donald Trump has withdrawn from the Paris Agreement, albeit under these circumstances, Indonesia is still committed to taking steps to address climate issues under President Prabowo Subianto, a senior government official says.
Minister of Environment, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, said that Indonesia continues to make efforts to address climate change in accordance with what President Prabowo Subianto conveyed at international meetings.
Quoting President Prabowo’s statement at the G20 Summit in Brazil last November, Hanif said that Indonesia remains committed to taking steps to address climate issues in an effort to reduce the increase in the earth’s temperature.
“This is the final commitment conveyed by the President until today, so that later when it is contributed to by President Trump who withdrew from the Paris Agreement, we still adhere to the direction of the President’s official speech at the G20 in Brazil,” Hanif said on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.
He also referred to Asta Cita, President Prabowo’s development program offered during the 2024 election campaign, which is used by the Ministry of Environment to encourage independence in terms of water and green economy, downstreaming of natural resource-based industries and climate-resilient development.
In 2025, the theme of environmental development is optimizing the circular economy and the economic value of carbon to encourage food and energy security in realizing sustainable development.
“There are key performance indicators that we will achieve in accordance with the final draft of the RPJMN which is currently awaiting ratification,” Hanif said.
Meanwhile, the main performance indicators in 2025 include the percentage of GHG emission reduction from five sectors in line with low-carbon development reaching 26.67 percent, the waste management performance index reaching 58 points, the environmental support and data storage index 0.567 points and the environmental quality index reaching 76.49 points.
