Dismantling of illegal sea fence in Tangerang waters continues

Indonesian Navy personnel, along with officials of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) and related agencies, continued to dismantle the illegal 30-kilometer sea fence off Tangerang waters, Banten province on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

This operation is a follow-up to the same action that began on Saturday, January 18, 2025, with the aim of overcoming the difficulties of fishermen in going fishingdue to obstructed access to the sea. 

In this operation, the Indonesian Navy deployed an amphibious artillery transport vehicle, two amphibious tractors, three trailer units, three sea riders, six motorized rubber boats, nine troop trucks, two escort vehicles, an ambulance, and a number of other supporting vessels. 

The demolition was witnessed by Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali and Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, involving2,593 people, including 753 Navy soldiers, local fishermen, as well as officials of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, National Police’s Sea and Air Patrol Unit, and the Indonesian Sea and Coast Guard Unit (KPLP). 

“We are determined to help overcome the community’s difficulties. This is the main task of the Indonesian Navy according to Law No. 34/2004 on the empowerment of maritime defense areas and in compliance with the orders of President Prabowo Subianto,” Admiral Muhammad Ali spoke to journalists. 

“The dismantling of illegal sea fence is also expected to improve fairer and more sustainable management of maritime areas,” he added.

Also present at the event were Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/ Head of the National Land Agency (BPN) Nusron Wahid, Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, Chairperson of Commission IV of the House of Representatives Titiek Soeharto.

Head of Indonesian Coast Guard (Bakamla) Rear Admiral Irvansyah, Head of the National Police’s Security Upkeeping Agency (Baharkam) Commissioner General Mohammad Fadil Imran, the Jakarta Military Commander.
