The simultaneous regional head elections were held in the country’s 38 provinces, 416 regencies and 98 cities on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, whose official results are expected to come by Monday, December 16, 2024.
The race has intensified as quick counts from several polling institutes reveal a closely contested battle between the candidates in the crucial simultaneous regional head election 2024.
In the capital city of Jakarta, which is considered the barometer and the miniature of domestic Indonesian politics, the three leading candidates are battling for voters, each hoping to sway the city’s nearly 11 million voters.
Three polling institutes − the Indonesian Survey Circle (LSI), Charta Politika, and Indikator − have revealed results of their quick count balloting systems, in particular regional head election results for Jakarta and the country’s top four provinces in terms of population, namely West Java, East Java, Centra Java and North Sumatra.
Jakarta gubernatorial candidate pairs (LSI):
- Ridwan Kamil (RK)-Suswono secure 39.29 percent;
- Dharma Pongrekun-Kun Wardhana (Pongrekun) secure 10.61 percent; and
- Pramono Anung-Rano Karno (Pramono-Karno) secure 50.10 percent.
West Java gubernatorial candidate pairs (Indikator):
- Acep Adang Ruhiat-Gitalis Dwi Natarina secure 9.67 percent;
- Jeje Wiradinata-Ronal Surapradja secure 9.10 percent;
- Ahmad Syaikhu-Ilham Akbar Habibie secure 20.07 percent; and
- Dedi Mulyadi-Erwan Setiawan secure 61.16 percent.
East Java gubernatorial candidate pairs (Charta Politika):
- Luluk Nur Hamidah-Lukmanul Khakim 8.16 percent;
- Khofifah Indar Parawansa-Emil Elestianto Dardak 57.23 percent;
- Tri Rismaharini-Zahrul Azhar Asumta 34.61 percent.
Central Java gubernatorial candidate pairs (LSI):
- Andika Perkasa-Hendrar Prihadi secure 40.62 percent;
- Ahmad Luthfi-Taj Yasin Maimoen secure 59.38 percent.
North Sumatra gubernatorial candidate pairs (Indikator):
- Bobby Nasution-Surya 62,71 percent;
- Edy Rahmayadi-Hasan Basri Sagala 37,29 percent.
The Indonesian Poltracking Survey Institute on the other hand revealed similar results of its quick count:
In Jakarta:
- Ridwan Kamil (RK)-Suswono secure 39.55 percent;
- Dharma Pongrekun-Kun Wardhana (Pongrekun) secure 10.37 percent; and
- Pramono Anung-Rano Karno (Pramono-Karno) secure 50.08 percent.
East Java gubernatorial candidate pairs:
- Luluk Nur Hamidah-Lukmanul Khakim 8.81 percent;
- Khofifah Indar Parawansa-Emil Elestianto Dardak 59.22 percent;
- Tri Rismaharini-Zahrul Azhar Asumta 31.97 percent.
Polls conducted by major research institutions in November 2024 show a competitive field, with significant shifts in public opinion. The latest figures suggest that while several candidates have emerged as a clear frontrunner, the race remains fluid, and anything could happen in the final stretch.
