Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia inaugurated Djoko Siswanto as Head of the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas) on Thursday, November 7, 2024.
Djoko replaces Dwi Soetjipto who has served as Head of SKK Migas since 2018.
Djoko Siswanto is a well-known figure in the government and oil and gas industries. He earned a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in 1990 and a doctoral degree in petroleum engineering also from the same campus in 2011.
In relation to his professional career, Djoko is known to have joined the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources since the early 1990s after working at PT Sarana Putra Makmur.
He has held a number of strategic positions at the ESDM ministry, including Director of the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas), Director of Natural Gas, to Director General of Oil and Gas.
Bahlil reminded that SKK Migas is an important government tool to encourage the acceleration of oil and gas production or lifting.
Therefore, close cooperation between SKK Migas and Oil and Gas Contractors (KKKS) is important.
“There is no other way, we must optimize the entire potential of our wells. Both those that will be explored and those that have finished exploration, as well as those that are idle and those that are already operating. We can still optimize their potential through technological intervention,” Bahlil said.
It has been reported that oil and gas lifting in Indonesia is curently experiencing a decline. Oil production in Indonesia has recently only been able to reach 600 thousand barrels per day (BPD).
In fact, oil consumption in Indonesia can reach up to 1.6 million (BPD). That means, Indonesia still has to import to meet domestic oil needs.
