Indonesia’s Upstream oil and gas regulatory task force(SKK Migas) noted that 12 of the 15 upstream oil and gas projects have started operation and producing oil and gas onstream.

The potential for increasing and maintaining production from the 12 projects is around 36,237 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 300 million cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) and 192 metric tons/day (MTD) of LPG.

SKK Migas spokesman, Hudi D. Suryodipuro, said the upstream oil and gas projects in 2024 have achieved the expected results, with the SKK Migas and oil&gas contractors continuing to coordinate intensively to ensure the three remaining projects, namely the Bronang Medco Natuna Forel Project with oil production capacity of 10,000 BOPD and 43 MMSCFD of gas, the SP Puspa Asri Pertamina EP oil project with a capacity of 600 BOPD, and the Merbau Pertamina EP compressor project with a capacity of 8 MMSCFD, securing production before end of 2024.

“We hope that the remaining projects can be onstream faster, because the majority of projects that have not yet been onstream are oil production, such as the Forel Bronang project which has the potential to provide additional production of 10,000 BOPD,” Hudi said in Jakarta on October 28, 2024.

For upstream oil and gas projects that produce oil, among others, are the Optimization of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore-North West Java (PHE ONWJ) Field Development with a capacity of 1,893 BOPD, Flowline ASDJ-116X PHE Ogan Komering with a capacity of 94 BOPD and Banyu Urip Infill Clastic ExxonMobile Cepu Ltd with a capacity of 33,000 BOPD.

As for gas projects, those that are already onstream are Peciko 88, SWG and Bekapai Artificial Lift Pertamina Hulu Mahakam with a capacity of 36 MMSCFD, AFCP project with a capacity of 117 MMSCFD, Dayung Facility Optimization Medco Grissik with a capacity of 40 MMSCFD, South Sembakung Compressor Facility with a capacity of 22 MMSCFD, CO2 Project and DHU Karang Baru Field Pertamina EP with a capacity of 5 MMSCFD.

Meanwhile, there are two projects that produce gas and oil, namely Akatara Gas Plant Jadestone Energy with a gas capacity of 25 MMSCFD and oil of 1,100 BOPD and LPT production of 192 MT/D. Then the West Belut project Medco Natuna with a gas capacity of 55 MMSCFD and oil of 150 BOPD.

The 12 projects, therefore, provide additional or maintain oil production facilities of 36,237 BOPD and gas of 300 MMSCFD with a total investment of US$277.4 million (Rp4.36 trillion).

Field supervision

Hudi said that currently Head of SKK Migas Project Management Division and his staff are in the field almost every week to carry out supervision and coordination as well as for quick decision-making in the field.

“This is also a form of change mindset in the upstream oil and gas industry that continues to increase the sense of crisis and sense of urgency in following up on the direction of the President and the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources to do various ways so that oil production does not decrease and continues to seek opportunities to increase LPG production from the upstream oil and gas sector, in an effort to reduce LPG imports,” he said.

He cited that the support of the upstream oil and gas industry to the government in realizing energy security is shown by the 2024-2029 upstream oil and gas investment plan which reaches 138 projects with a total investment of around US$ 36.23 billion (including national strategic projects) equivalent to Rp543 trillion or almost five times the investment of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train.

The completion of all 15 projects by the end of 2024 could provide additional or maintain oil production capacity of 46,827 BOPD, gas of 351 MMSCFD and also LPG production of 192 MT/D.
