East Java prosecutor’s office probes INKA graft case upon report by SOEs Minister

The East Java Provincial Prosecutors’ Office is investigating corruption allegations at State-owned railway manufacturer PT INKA following a report by Minister of State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) Erick Thohir.

Arya Sinulingga, Special Staff to the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, said that in 2022, a letter was sent to the Junior Attorney General for General Crimes (Jampidum) requesting an investigation into PT INKA.

“In 2022, Pak Erick, through his legal deputy, sent a letter to the Junior Attorney General for General Crimes to investigate INKA,” Arya said on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

He noted that the ongoing investigation is part of a broader effort to clean up state-owned enterprises.

“This investigation by the Office of Junior Attorney General for General Crimes is based on Pak Erick’s report, as part of the effort to clean up SOEs. So, this case involving INKA is part of that cleanup,” Arya said.

The Special Crimes Investigation Team of the East Java Provincial Prosecutors’ Office has questioned 18 individuals in connection with the alleged corruption at INKA. The investigation is linked to a mega project worth Rp167 trillion (US$10.3 billion).

“To date, investigators have questioned 18 witnesses regarding the alleged corruption in INKA’s mega project worth Rp167 trillion,” Windhu Sugiarto, Spokesman of the East Java Provincial Prosecutors. Office, said as by detikJatim on July 18, 2024.

Windhu clarified that the 18 individuals questioned include not only INKA employees but also affiliated parties and TSG Infrastructure, all of whom are currently considered witnesses.

“The investigation includes individuals from INKA, its affiliates, Singapore-based TSG Infrastructure, and other related parties,” he said.

He added that the examination and search operation have been conducted by the Special Crimes Investigation Team since July 10, 2024.

“Yes, we visited INKA on July 10,” Windhu confirmed.
