PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas) and PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) have entered into a collaboration to explore the utilization of gas compressors for PHE’s operational and production needs.

Pertagas CEO, Gamal Imam Santoso, said the memorandum of understanding would be a significant milestone in the collaboration between PHE and Pertagas.

“Currently, Pertagas mainly operates in PHE’s midstream sector. This memorandum of understanding will be followed by a study on the utilization of gas compressor units,” Gamal said on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

The collaboration with PHE is one of Pertagas’ efforts to optimize existing assets that can provide mutual benefits for both parties and Pertamina Holding sustainably. Pertagas’ gas turbine compressor (GTC) assets can be used to increase gas pressure from the supply source to enter gas networks with higher pressure.

GTC utilization is commonly used in gas transmission pipelines and gas processing. So far, GTC has been used as a primary facility to increase pressure and maintain gas distribution reliability on Pertagas’ transmission pipelines.

Gamal hopes that with the follow-up from this memorandum of understanding, both companies can jointly study the utilization of Pertagas’ GTC for the development of PHE’s gas fields.

“For Pertagas, the utilization of GTC not only increases revenue but also demonstrates the tangible optimization of existing assets in the form of gas turbine compressors that support Pertagas’ business sustainability,” Gamal said.

On the other hand, from PHE’s perspective, the utilization of GTC is expected to potentially reduce production costs and develop PHE’s gas fields.

PHE’s Director of Production and Development, Awang Lazuardi, said that the collaboration with Pertagas is a synergy within the Pertamina Group aimed at providing added value and sustainable mutual benefits for both companies.

“Hopefully, in the future, the potential of this collaboration can be explored not only in upstream activities but also in other assets to provide benefits and sustainable business development impacts,” Awang said.
