State electricity company PT PLN has ensured that public electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLUs) along the Jakarta-Merak Toll Road are safe and reliable to serve electric car users during the post-Idul Fitri 2024 returning traffic flow.

The Jakarta-Merak Toll Road is one of the main routes for travelers from Java to Sumatra or vice versa. Therefore, the presence of reliable SPKLUs, especially on the Jakarta-Merak Toll Road, is crucial to support travelers using electric cars.

PLN President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, said PLN continued to maintain SPKLU readiness, including during the post-Idul Fitri holiday returning traffic flow.

“We will continue to maintain SPKLU along the mudik (homecoming) route. We have prepared SPKLU at every rest area, along with standby personnel ready to assist electric vehicle users to comfortably charge their vehicles,” Darmawan said in a media statement on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

PLN’s Banten Distribution Unit General Manager, Abdul Mukhlis, said that they have operated a total of 51 SPKLU units spread across 32 locations and 1 mobile SPKLU unit during the 2024 Idul Fitri holiday period.

Mukhlis cited that there are four SPKLUs along the toll road from Jakarta towards Merak Port − at rest areas on KM 13.5A, KM 43, KM 68A, and at the Merak Port. Meanwhile, from the opposite direction, there are SPKLUs at rest areas on KM 68B and 45B.

“At each rest area, there is PLN service post available for electric vehicle users to rest while waiting for battery charging. Each post has PLN personnel ready to assist vehicle users if they encounter any charging issues,” he said.

Mukhlis said further that in order to provide convenience to electric vehicle users, the PLN Mobile SuperApp is now available, equipped with three additional features supporting electric car travelers. One of them is the Trip Planner feature to plan travel and charging plans when using electric cars.

“Currently, scanning SPKLU barcodes for charging only requires two steps, down from the previous three steps, and the SPKLU standby pop-up allows direct communication with the 24-hour SPKLU hotline,” he said.
