The Ministry of Public Works and Housing has planned to re-auction the Gilimanuk-Mengwi toll road project this year.

Minister of of Public Works and Housing Basuki Hadimuljono announced that the process of re-auctioning the Gilimanuk-Mengwi toll road would commence this week.

“Thank God, during the meeting, it was decided that the PQ or pre-qualification for Gilimanuk-Mengwi toll road project will be announced this Friday,” Basuki said on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

He said the government aimed to complete the announcement of pre-qualified parties by April 2024, allowing the re-auction process for the Gilimanuk-Mengwi toll road project to proceed shortly thereafter. If the re-auction process proceeds smoothly, the ministry is optimistic that the winner of the Gilimanuk-Mengwi toll road auction will sign a toll road guarantee agreement (PPJT) by September 2024.

“Perhaps the winner will be announced in April, then the tender. God willing, in September 2024, the PPJT can be signed,” Basuki said.

The longest toll road project in Bali is being re-auctioned as the initial initiator failed to secure funding or investors for the construction. Despite the groundbreaking for the Gilimanuk-Mengwi toll road was held on September 10, 2022, the project faced hurdles.

The toll road is planned to traverse three regencies, 13 districts, and 58 villages. The estimated investment cost for the Gilimanuk-Mengwi toll road reaches IDR 24.6 trillion. It consists of three sections: Section 1 Gilimanuk-Pekutatan with a length of 53.6 kilometers, Section 2 Pekutatan-Soka with a length of 24.3 kilometers, and Section 3 Soka-Mengwi with a length of 18.9 kilometers, totaling 96.84 kilometers.
