Digital telecommunications company PT Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (ISAT) has announced that BDx Indonesia has agreed to acquire Indosat’s data centers for IDR 2.62 trillion (US$ 168 million).
BDx Indonesia is a joint venture between Indosat, Data Centers (BDx), and Lintasarta. The company has agreed to acquire the carrier-neutral colocation and edge sites portfolio owned by ISAT in major cities, including Jakarta, Surabaya, Batam, Medan, Makassar, Bandung, and Semarang.
PT Indosat Ooredoo is one of the companies providing telecommunications services and telecommunications networks in Indonesia. It provides telecommunications networks for mobile phone users with prepaid and postpaid options under the Matrix, Mentari, 3 and IM3 brands.
The company is a merger of two complementary businesses, namely PT Indosat and PT Hutchison 3 Indonesia. Continuing to develop and innovate, currently PT Indosat Ooredoo has succeeded in becoming the second largest mobile telecommunications business in Indonesia.
The acquisition also includes 10 strategic locations connected to six domestic and five international submarine cables. In realizing this acquisition, BDx Indonesia secured a loan facility from three banks in Indonesia, namely PT Bank Central Asia (BBCA), PT Bank Permata (BNLI), and PT Bank KB Bukopin (BBKP), amounting to IDR 2.62 trillion.
Furthermore, this transaction reaffirms their joint commitment to empower Indonesia through technological advancements. In this transaction, FTI Capital Advisors acted as the financial advisor for Indosat.
Vikram Sinha, President Director and Chief Executive Officer of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, stated that this transaction dedicates the company to building a sustainable business and driving the evolution of Indosat from a telecommunications company (telco) to a technology company (TechCo).
Through this deal, Vikram said that BDx Indonesia will have a data center capacity of over 150 MW+ in Indonesia through 10 colocation facilities, including a new facility being constructed in the Jakarta area with a capacity of 15 MW.
In addition, BDx Indonesia will also possess a 100 MW hyperscale campus in Suryacipta, East Jakarta, and carrier-neutral edge sites on all major islands in Indonesia, designed with environmentally friendly specifications to accelerate the digitization of Indonesian society.
“Collaborating with BDx Indonesia not only enhances our customer services but also strengthens our commitment to connect and empower the people of Indonesia,” said Vikram on Wednesday.
With data centers as a driver of digital economic growth, these facilities are expected to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2024.
