Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMNT), a subsidiary of PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk (AMMN), has entered into a preliminary agreement with PT Pertamina. This agreement was mutually signed on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
Vemmy Febrianti, the Corporate Secretary of PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk, explained that this step has been taken to ensure a stable supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the new gas and steam power plant (PLTGU) owned by AMNT.
This move is aimed at supporting the energy requirements for the operation of the copper smelter facility being constructed by PT Amman Mineral Industri (AMIN), which is another subsidiary of AMMN.
“The signing of the HOA has significant implications for ensuring the LNG supply to AMNT’s PLTGU, which is crucial for meeting the energy demands of the copper smelting facility, precious metal refining, processing plant expansion, and the eighth-phase mining,” Vemmy said.
Smelter completion targeted for 2024
Amman Mineral Internasional is targeting the completion of its copper smelter construction project in West Sumbawa Regency by 2024.
Through its subsidiary, AMIN, the company plans to build a smelter with an initial input capacity of 900,000 tons of copper concentrate per year. This smelter will process copper concentrate sourced from the Batu Hijau mine and the Elang project.
The smelter is expected to produce 222,000 tons of copper cathodes and 830,000 tons of sulfuric acid with a 98% concentration.
The construction of this smelter aligns with the company’s commitment to support the government’s downstream program. As of January 2023, the overall progress in the construction has reached 51.63%.
