PT PepsiCo Indonesia Food and Beverages (PepsiCo) returns to Indonesia and builds an IDR 3.04 trillion snack factory in Cikarang, West Java.

PepsiCo is returning to Indonesia because of the favorable investment climate in Indonesia, and it is one of the food and beverage companies’ strong considerations for returning to Indonesia.

“Indonesia is one of the largest and fastest growing markets in the world. As many as 48% of the market population in Asia are here, so we cannot pass up this opportunity,” said Parinya Kitjatanapan, CEO of PepsiCo’s Asia Business Unit, August 30, 2023.

Meanwhile, Asif Mobin, CEO of PepsiCo, emphasized that the Cikarang factory will focus on producing snacks to meet the domestic market. PepsiCo will also present various new products in the future.

The company also targets to export various products from the Cikarang factory to countries that prioritize halal products.

Government responded well

Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Investment appreciated PepsiCo’s move to build a factory in Indonesia and called it the right step.

“In my opinion, what a loss it would be if friends who carry out industrial processes do not build their manufacturing in Indonesia,” he said.

Previously, Pepsi under the name PT Pepsi Indobeverages had been producing its products in Indonesia since 1996.

At that time, Pepsi and PT Indofood CBP Sukses Makmur Tbk (ICBP) collaborated. However, since 2019 Pepsi has left Indonesia and stopped collaborating with Indofood for unknown reasons.
