The Gerindra Party, Golkar Party, National Mandate Party (PAN), and National Awakening Party (PKB) have thrown their support behind Prabowo Subianto as a presidential candidate in the upcoming 2024 Presidential Election.

The declaration of support from Golkar and PAN was made during an event at the Proclamation Text Formulation Museum in Central Jakarta on Sunday, August 13, 2023. Prabowo mentioned that they are not hesitant to acknowledge their role in the government led by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

As part of President Jokowi’s team, the four political parties understand Indonesia’s challenges, anticipate potential issues, and work to address them.

Prabowo stated him, along with leaders of the other supporting parties are grappling with issues concerning the nation and collectively comprehend these problems.

“We understand, along with Mr. Jokowi, we have looked towards the future and we believe that Indonesia will head toward the aspirations of the people,” Prabowo added.

During this gathering, Airlangga Hartarto, the Chairman of the Golkar Party, underscored that Prabowo Subianto has strong ties with the Golkar Party.

“General Prabowo Subianto was born from the womb of the Golkar Party. Thus, he has always participated in the party’s activities and his contributions are beyond doubt. This collaboration is egalitarian, aligned, and united in purpose with the Golkar Party,” Airlangga noted.

Similarly, Zulkifli Hasan, Chairman of the PAN, expressed his endorsement for Prabowo, citing their decade-long collaboration. “If the finish line is near, why not be patient? We believe that a 10-year effort will yield results,” Zulkifli stated.

PDIP responds to the political move

On the other hand, the declaration of support has prompted a response from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP).

Said Abdullah, Chairman of the Central Executive Board of PDIP, stated that PDIP is accustomed to political confrontations dating back to the New Order era.

“We have a long history as a party that has been nurtured and grown accustomed to political confrontations,” Said stated in a press release on Sunday, August 13, 2023.

Said expressed his optimism regarding the 2024 Presidential Election, highlighting the endorsement of Ganjar Pranowo as a presidential candidate with not only the support of the United Development Party (PPP), but also the backing of Islamic scholars and students.

Furthermore, non-parliamentary parties like the People’s Conscience Party (Hanura) and the Indonesian Unity Party (Perindo) are viewed as additional ammunition in the campaign to secure Ganjar’s presidency. Said asserted that the diverse and complementary political configuration is a crucial foundation for Ganjar’s success.

Said emphasized that Ganjar possesses significant electoral magnetism due to his commendable track record, particularly as the Governor of Central Java.
