PLN and CCCC signs agreement for renewable energy development in Indonesia

PT PLN (Persero) has recently taken a significant stride towards the development of renewable energy (RE) in Indonesia by signing a business agreement with a Chinese company China Communications Construction Co., Ltd (CCCC).

PLN signs agreement with CCCC

China Communications Construction Co., Ltd (CCCC), is a Chinese Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) company focusing on transport infrastructure construction, design, dredging, and heavy machinery manufacturing businesses.

PLN’s President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, formalized the agreement during his business visit to China on May 21, 2023.

Currently, PLN, Indonesia’s state-owned electricity company, is focusing on developing various renewable energy power plants, including hydroelectric power plants, solar power plants, wind turbines, and pumped storage power plants across the archipelago.

PLN expects the collaboration with CCCC to provide valuable access to cutting-edge technologies and expertise in the renewable energy sector.

Potential energy transition boost

As one of the largest construction companies in China, CCCC holds the potential to accelerate Indonesia’s energy transition process from fossil fuels to renewable energy, in line with the country’s net-zero emission (NZE) target set for 2060.

“The cooperation that has been built between PLN and CCCC is expected to accelerate the construction of renewable energy power plants. Thus, Indonesia will further accelerate energy transition process,” Prasodjo said.

Additionally, PLN aims to leverage CCCC’s extensive experience to explore discussions and potential collaborations in the development of renewable energy infrastructure.

Furthermore, they seek to collaborate on the establishment of Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) terminals for gasification.

CCCC boasts an impressive track record of engaging in major projects within China and internationally. 

Includes, Hangzhou Bay bridge, the world’s largest port situated in Shanghai, and the renowned Three Gorges Dam in China.

Darmawan expresses his belief that this cooperation agreement would enhance investor confidence while reinforcing economic relations between China and Indonesia. 

In line with sustainable future

“This cooperation agreement can increase investor confidence. through solid cooperation between PLN and CCCC,” stated Prasodjo.

“Is also expected to strengthen economic relations between China and Indonesia,” adds Prasodjo.

PLN and CCCC will deliver fruitful outcomes in the field of renewable energy, for a sustainable future with partnership.

Indonesia takes a significant step for its renewable energy goals, harnessing the expertise and technologies from CCCC. 

The two will drive the transition to renewable energy, fueling the nation’s pursuit of a greener and more sustainable future.
