Bank Indonesia reports an increase in digital banking transactions of about 9.88%

Bank Indonesia (BI) revealed that there was a 9.88% increase in digital banking transactions for the March 2023 period compared to the same period last year (YoY) to IDR 4,944.1 trillion.

“Digital financial and economic transactions have increased with the support of a smooth and reliable payment system,” said Perry Warjiyo, Governor of BI on April 18, 2023.

Meanwhile, electronic money transactions grew 11.39% YoY in March 2023 reaching IDR 34.1 trillion. Use of ATM cards, debit cards and credit cards also rose by 0.45% YoY to IDR 707.1 trillion.

According to Warjiyo, there are predictions of an increase in economic transactions and digital finance in the future, and in line with the increase in community activities, and the expansion and optimization of the user ecosystem.

To expedite digital financial economic transactions, BI will strengthen the payment system digitization process to increase transaction efficiency, and expand the digital economic and financial ecosystem.

Such as through the implementation of the Indonesian Standard Quick Response Code (QRIS) between Indonesia and Malaysia. As well as, the use of physical domestic government credit cards in collaboration with the government, and the Indonesian Payment System Association (ASPI), which coincides with the Indonesian Digital Economy and Finance Festival (FEKDI) in May 2023.

Currently, BI ensures the availability of good quality rupiah currency throughout Indonesia through the Lively Rupiah Ramadhan and Blessings of Eid al-Fitr (SERAMBI) 2023 programs in order to strengthen cash services for the public . In addition, BI also provides money exchange service locations at various points.
