Communication and Information Technology Minister Johnny G. Plate said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta that breaches of personal data protection were common.
Therefore, he advised electronic system providers (ESPs) to prioritize user data security. He also stressed the need for improvement in cryptographic technology, the quality of human resources which maintain digital security and cyber security management.
The communication ministry said it has launched an internal investigation over the alleged breach of Indonesian phone SIM card registration data traded on a hacker website breached.co. An account named Bjorka claimed on its page that it has 1,304,401,300 SIM card registration data with a capacity of 87 GB. The ministry in a written statement emphasized that based on observations, the data did not come from the ministry.
