PT Pertamina Power Indonesia (PPI), a subsidiary of state-owned oil-and-gas giant PT Pertamina and Power & New Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) Subholding, signed an agreement with HyET Solar Netherlands BV to develop photovoltaic (PV) foils in Indonesia.
Pertamina NRE is aggressively developing Solar Power Plant (PLTS) projects which potential reaches 500 MW (megaWatts), including at Pertamina’s gas stations nationwide.
“The signing of this MoU was done at the perfect moment because it is in line with Indonesia’s 2045 Vision and the G20 Presidency to achieve energy sovereignty and a sustainable energy transition in Indonesia. I believe that the cooperation between the two parties will contribute to national and global efforts in realizing greener energy,” said Dutch Ambassador to Indonesia Mayerfas in his speech.
Pertamina NRE spokesman Dicky Sepriady said both companies were considering the potential capacity of producing photovoltaic foils, investment values, and other sources of investment. “All projects are in progress,” he told Indonesia Business Post on May 18, 2022, adding that the companies have not sought partners or bank financing.
In the early phase of the cooperation, HyET Solar will conduct a small-scale pilot project on the development of a Solar Power foil. Both companies will proceed with the feasibility study if the pilot project meets the investment criteria.
HyET Solar Netherlands BV will use Solar Powerfoil technology in thin films made of solar cells for this PV (photovoltaic) foil project. The solar cells are made of amorphous silicon and micro-crystal in the rollable 0.5 mm foils. PV foil technology is more efficient from an installation perspective since it can be installed on any surface.
PPI CEO Dannif Danusaputro said Pertamina NRE was the most advanced entity protecting Pertamina’s energy transition. ‘We are all moving toward zero emissions. Gradually, Pertamina is transforming itself from a fossil fuel oriented company into one that produces low carbon emissions,” he said.
Developing PV manufacturing business is one of the strategic cooperation for Pertamina NRE. Danusaputro said the development of PV foil technology in Indonesia could contribute to increase local content.
