Cement producer, Semen Merah Putih, is participating in supporting President Prabowo Subianto government’s collaborative program to provide 3 million houses with quality, affordable, and decent buildings for the community.

Established in 2011, PT Cemindo Gemilang (Semen Merah Putih) is a premium quality cement producer with the Semen Merah Putih brand.

According to Semen Merah Putih, durable building quality is an important factor in developing housing in Indonesia.

Oza Guswara, GM Sales & Marketing Semen Merah Putih, said that the 3 million houses program is a challenge as well as a great opportunity for the construction industry.

“We believe that to support this program, an integrated solution is needed from upstream to downstream, which covers the entire process from cement production to concrete application,” Oza said on Monday, December 2, 2024.

To support the acceleration of housing development, Semen Merah Putih in collaboration with Beton Merah Putih (PT Motive Mulia), a subsidiary of Semen Merah Putih, is developing an innovative solution in the form of precast concrete material for the modular home concept.

“Modular Homes are homes built with industrial prefabricated modules, so that it will not only save time and construction labor, but also ensure that the quality will be the same or even better than conventionally built homes,” Akhmad Syamsuddin, Operational Director of Beton Merah Putih, said.

Sustainable construction

The quality of this modular home will be strengthened by the use of green cement from Semen Merah Putih, to support the concept of sustainable construction, said Akhmad.

He added that the use of hydraulic cement has proven reliable in various infrastructure projects in Indonesia, including large projects in Batam, Riau Islands province.

Oza further emphasized that Semen Merah Putih hydraulic cement is not only more environmentally friendly but is designed and developed as a performance-based cement, so that it will produce strong and durable construction according to needs.

“By prioritizing products that have high energy efficiency and are environmentally friendly, Semen Merah Putih supports the government’s target in reducing carbon emissions, in line with the vision of sustainability that is currently the focus of the construction industry,” he said.

Separately, the Indonesian Builders Association (GAPENSI) is ready to explore opportunities for further cooperation with the government and other industry players in supporting the acceleration of the 3 million housing program. This approach includes offering innovative construction materials that are in accordance with the needs of low- to middle-income housing construction.

“Collaboration between construction material producers such as Semen Merah Putih and construction companies is the key to success in accelerating the 3 million housing program. Because the right application method and reliable construction workers are needed to get quality building results in a short period of time. With integrated solutions from upstream to downstream, we are optimistic that construction actors can answer the challenges of development with high standards,” Tb Nasrul Ibnu HR, Chairman of Gapensi, said.

Economic impact

This program is expected to not only open access to housing for lower-middle-class people, but also provide a significant economic impact through a domino effect, such as the creation of new jobs and supply chain stability in the construction industry.

Semen Merah Putih sees this major project as an opportunity to increase demand in the bagged cement sector, which currently accounts for 70 percent of the company’s total sales. With this program, cement demand is expected to grow by around 1 percent in the initial stage, providing a significant boost to the national cement industry amidst the current economic challenges.
