The Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) has sealed an agreement with the South Korean Government to build an immersed tunnel for an underwater toll road in the Indonesian Capital City, Nusantara (IKN).

The PUPR ministry revealed that the cost of building the infrastructure requires a budget of up to Rp11 trillion (US$690.7 million).

“The estimated cost for completing the immersed tunnel is approximately Rp11 trillion (US$682 million),” Wida Nurfaida, Director for Road Development, Directorate General of Bina Marga, at the PUPR ministry, said on Wednesday, August 7, 2024.

Meanwhile, the breakdown of the total cost needed to build the IKN Toll access reaches Rp6.38 trillion.

“The average cost per kilometer for toll road financing itself is Rp305 billion, while for completion of those that have not been built is Rp6.38 trillion,” Wida said.

Overall, the total length of the toll road access to the Core Government Center Area (KIPP) reaches 88.54 kilometers (Km), with 67.65Km having been built. Meanwhile, the total length of the tunnel is around 2 Km.

Previously, one of the business entities that have shown interest in working on the underwater toll project is State-owned construction company PT Hutama Karya (HK).

Agung Fajarwanto, First Director of Operations at Hutama Karya, said that HK is currently in the process of finalizing the feasibility study for the project.

“We are initiating a study to propose an initiative to build a toll segment, one of which is the construction of an immersed tunnel,” he said.

Agung estimates that the total construction value for the first underwater tunnel project will reach Rp10 trillion.
