PLN partners with TAQA for green grid development in Indonesia

Indonesia’s state electricity company, PT PLN (Persero), signs an MoU with Abu Dhabi National Energy Company, PJSC (TAQA), at COP28 in Dubai, UAE, to collaborate on developing transmission grid interconnection and smart grid technologies.

The partnership between PLN and TAQA signifies a global business collaboration between an Indonesian and UAE-based company, aiming to address challenges in location misalignment between renewable energy sources and existing energy demand.

Darmawan Prasodjo, PLN’s CEO emphasizes the need for green enabling transmission to achieve sustainable alignment between supply and demand amid the energy transition. The collaboration seeks to develop green transmission infrastructure.

PLN and TAQA’s collaboration aims to accelerate the energy transition by enhancing transmission networks and interconnections. They also plan to implement smart grid technology for effective and stable management of renewable energy distribution.

The collaboration outlines strategic corridors connecting regions like Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, and Nusa Tenggara. State-of-the-art smart grid technologies, including flexible generation and smart control dispatch centers, will be developed.

PLN is engaged in global collaboration, including with the Global Power System Transformation Consortium (G-PST), for the development of smart grid technologies. The goal is to smoothly execute the energy transition with cutting-edge technology.

Jasim Husain Thabet, TAQA’s Group CEO expresses enthusiasm for transformative collaboration with PLN, emphasizing a focus on capacity enhancement to harness renewable energy and achieve a more sustainable future.

Jasim underscores the importance of collaboration as the key to innovation, fostering a collaborative distribution ecosystem for technological advancements. The partnership aims to create a brighter and more sustainable future.

Abu Dhabi-based TAQA is a diversified utility and energy group with significant investments in power generation, water, transmission, and distribution assets. The collaboration with PLN marks a significant step in advancing sustainable energy initiatives.
