PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk, operating as Subholding Gas Pertamina, actively promotes the establishment of sustainable Smart Cities based on clean energy.

Arief Setiawan Handoko, the President Director of PGN, emphasized the company’s commitment to encouraging community use of clean energy, particularly natural gas, known for its low carbon emissions.

Speaking at a public discussion forum in Jakarta on November 8, 2023, Arief highlighted the potential of clean energy to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Smart Cities by reducing costs and energy consumption. He added that this approach not only contributes to environmental sustainability but also enhances people’s quality of life.

The PGN Group is dedicated to offering integrated solutions across the energy spectrum, from upstream to downstream, focusing on providing Smart Energy, Smart Solutions, and Smart Infrastructure to support Smart City development.

The distribution of natural gas involves both pipeline and non-pipeline infrastructure, aligning with PGN’s strategic pillars. Natural gas is actively used as a cleaner fuel for vehicles.

The adoption of gas fuel (BBG) in transportation has been shown to yield cost savings of up to 33%. Similarly, the utilization of natural gas through piped gas networks can result in significant cost savings of approximately 27-28% for households, commercial entities, and industrial customers.

Beyond pipeline usage of natural gas is also reported to offer cost savings of up to 18%. Arief revealed that PGN is actively enhancing the gas network in Smart Cities, including involvement in the National Capital City (IKN) Nusantara project.

In its commitment to safety, PGN conducts real-time monitoring of gas networks throughout Indonesia, managing approximately 7,000 km of gas pipes and operating two Floating Storage Regasification Units (FSRU) in Lampung and Jakarta.

Arief emphasized ongoing efforts to develop these assets to ensure sustainable growth. By supporting Smart City development, PGN envisions a holistic approach that goes beyond technology and networks, aiming to optimize the use of clean energy.

Arief concluded by expressing PGN’s readiness to address urban challenges and contribute to creating sustainable Smart Cities across Indonesia through Smart Energy, Smart Solutions, and Smart Infrastructure.
