Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), a subsidiary of oil and gas company Pertamina, continues to develop breakthrough technologies to enhance efficiency in geothermal development in Indonesia.
This commitment to technological innovation stems from PGE’s belief in the significant potential of geothermal energy as a reliable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly energy source.
One of the technologies being developed by PGE is Flow2Max, a two-phase geothermal fluid flow measurement system. This technology has undergone a series of testing and prototyping phases.
Flow2Max, discovered by PGE’s Manager of Production and Operational Excellence, Mohamad Husni Mubarok, is the first of its kind in the world. Presently, PGE has successfully installed Flow2Max in five production wells in the Lahendong Area, North Sulawesi.
The installation of Flow2Max enables more reliable, real-time, accurate, flexible, and reliable monitoring of two-phase geothermal fluid flow compared to existing technologies. Additionally, it aids PGE in reservoir management and optimization, including early detection of technical issues in wells.
With the successful installation of Flow2Max in five wells, PGE plans to expand its use to other geothermal wells, further enhancing operational efficiency.
Julfi Hadi, CEO of PGE, reaffirms the company’s commitment to developing various innovations and technologies to improve operational reliability and efficiency. This commitment underscores PGE’s dedication to advancing the geothermal industry in Indonesia.
Furthermore, PGE invites stakeholders to support the development of geothermal energy as a clean energy source in Indonesia, contributing to a more sustainable future.
In addition to Flow2Max, PGE has officially adopted the Geoflowtest portable well production testing device across various geothermal production fields. Geoflowtest, also initiated by Husni and the PGE team, provides more accurate real-time data for well production capacity testing, enhancing efficiency and safety.
Moreover, PGE collaborates with PT Sigma Cipta Utama (SCU) in developing Geoflowtest. This portable device improves testing efficiency, allowing comprehensive evaluation and monitoring of well production capacity.
Furthermore, in optimizing the utilization of renewable energy, PGE is developing screw expander technology in collaboration with PT Kaishan Orka Indonesia. This equipment extracts additional energy from low-pressure geothermal fluids, thereby enhancing overall geothermal power plant efficiency.
By increasing electricity capacity generated from geothermal power plants, PGE aims to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.
