Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) has partnered with logistics company Pelindo to develop the Jakarta Integrated Green Terminal (JIGT), an environmentally friendly energy terminal in Kalibaru, North Jakarta.
The first-phase investment for this sustainable energy terminal ranges from approximately US$ 350 million to US$ 550 million, equivalent to IDR 5.3 trillion to IDR 8.3 trillion.
“We project an investment value of US$350 million to US$ 550 million for the first phase. After the Final Investment Decision (FID), we will have a clearer picture of the total investment required,” Yoki Firnandi, CEO of Pertamina International Shipping (PIS)stated on September 1, 2023.
Yoki revealed that the development of the terminal will be executed in three phases, with the first phase focusing on a fuel terminal.
Yoki highlighted the potential for funding the JIGT project from investors. To that end, PIS and Pelindo are actively seeking private investors interested in contributing to this endeavor.
“We are exploring potential funding from investors. We have engaged in discussions with potential investors regarding project financing,” he said.
For the initial phase, the projected capacity of the terminal is set at 4.4 million barrels, while the combined capacity for all three phases is anticipated to reach 6.4 million barrels.
“This terminal will ultimately surpass the size and modernity of the Plumpang Integrated Fuel Oil Terminal (TBBM),” Yoki added.
The JIGT will not only store fuel types like LPG, petroleum, gasoline, and biodiesel but is also designed to accommodate LNG, CPO, UCO (used cooking oil), petrochemicals, and even hydrogen, the demand for which is expected to grow significantly by 2030.
Enhancing national energy resilience
Salyadi Saputra, Director of Strategy, Portfolio, and Business Development at Pertamina, highlighted that the terminal would play a pivotal role in enhancing national energy resilience within the Kalibaru region.
“Pertamina has entrusted PIS, as the Subholding Integrated Marine Logistics, which has a strong track record in managing strategic energy terminals, to undertake the development of the Jakarta Integrated Green Terminal,” he explained.
Spanning 64 Ha within the Pelindo area in Kalibaru, North Jakarta, JIGT’s development plan is grounded in forecasts of increasing and diversified national energy needs over the coming years.
The accelerated development of JIGT underscores the commitment to support the government’s net-zero emissions (NZE) target by 2060 or even sooner, demonstrating a bold step towards a sustainable and environmentally responsible future.
