To encourage energy transition policies in Indonesia, PT Pertamina (Persero) is continuously innovating in the field of Renewable Energy (EBT).

One of the efforts undertaken by Pertamina is the development of a hydrogen-based vehicle ecosystem. This innovation is being carried out through collaboration with global automotive company, Toyota, in the development of hydrogen-powered vehicles.

Development to be carried out to identify hydrogen business potential

Dannif Danusaputro, the President Director of PT Pertamina New and Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), stated that this development is aimed at exploring the business potential of hydrogen for transportation.

“Hydrogen for vehicles is one of the alternative clean energy transportation options. Pertamina, together with Toyota, will develop a passenger car ecosystem based on hydrogen,” said Dannif in an official statement on Wednesday (12/7).

Pertamina NRE will also collaborate with PT Pertamina Patra Niaga to build the hydrogen refueling infrastructure.

Pertamina has the facility advantage

Dannif mentioned that Pertamina already has the advantage of supporting facilities scattered throughout Indonesia. This is one of the added values for the future development of the EBT business.

“In the future, we will prepare hydrogen refueling stations that can be used by hydrogen-based vehicles at existing Pertamina facilities, as evidence of Pertamina’s commitment to optimizing infrastructure for energy transition acceleration,” he said.

Attempt to achieve Net Zero Emission target

Meanwhile, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication at Pertamina, stated that these transportation innovations are Pertamina’s concrete actions to achieve the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target by 2060 by providing environmentally friendly transportation alternatives.

Fadjar also mentioned that Pertamina’s innovations towards NZE 2060 are being rolled out, not only in the primary business sector but also in derivative businesses that can be utilized by the public.
