Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, has revealed that UAE-based energy company Masdar is set to invest in the construction of a 1.2-gigawatt (GW) Solar Power Plant (PLTS) at the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in North Penajam Paser regency, East Kalimantan.

The investment plan was among the topics discussed by Minister Airlangga and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair on Friday, April 19, 2024.

“The 1.2 GW PLTS in IKN is being prepared for investment by Masdar. Masdar has experience investing in the Cirata PLTS (West Java). So, this investment is more realistic,” Airlangga said on Friday, April 19, 2024.

Masdar is among the potential investors interested in investing in the IKN’s PLTS project. However, Airlangga said that further discussions regarding the investment amount have not yet taken place.

“We haven’t discussed it yet. This is what we discussed with Mr. Tony Blair,” the minister said.

Airlangga revealed that the discussion session also covered energy transition, particularly the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETPI) and the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC).

Additionally, both parties discussed efforts to promote financial inclusivity, including through digitization.

Considering the resources available to the Tony Blair Institute (TBI), it is hoped that they can support digitization efforts.

“We want to encourage inclusive digitalization, so we discuss digital infrastructure, Artificial Intelligence (AI) regulation, and cybersecurity,” Airlangga said.
