Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut B. Pandjaitan, is optimistic that the construction of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan will reach around 80 percent by August 2024.

“We, along with Public Works and Housing Ministry and related teams, have reviewed and discussed some pending issues and various technicalities. We have seen that toll roads have almost been completed, but I think it is a matter of process and 80 percent of them can be completed by August,” Luhut said after directly reviewing the progress of the IKN construction on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.

He expressed hope that the August 17 independence ceremony could be held at the IKN.

“We hope that on 17 August, the ceremony of the country’s independence will be held here. Not only the toll road, but also other things I think are going well. The airport will be ready and can accommodate three airplanes by August 17. But for all of them, it will be completed in about a year,” Luhut said.

The locations reviewed by Luhut included the IKN Access Toll Road segment 5A, IKN Logistics Pier, IKN VVIP Airport, the State Palace, the Ceremony Field, the Plaza, and
The Coordinating Ministry Offices.

In addition to inspecting the infrastructures, Luhut also held a meeting with Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono regarding the progress of IKN development.
