Krakatau Chandra Energi (KCE), a subsidiary of PT Chandra Asri Pacific (TPIA), has planned to expand into a number of renewable energy projects, through the acquisition of hydropower plants (PLTMH) in Java.

Ermawanto, OEM & Services Department Head at PT Krakatau Chandra Energi said that a feasibility study related to the acquisition plan is underway. This acquisition aims to increase the capacity of the green energy mix in supporting the sustainability of the company’s operations.

“We cannot yet explain the exact location because this is still in the study stage,” he said, on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

KCE is also preparing a number of other projects besides PLTMH. Some of them are Floating Solar PV with a capacity of 9.6 MWp, which utilizes water areas for solar power plants and the development of Rooftop Solar PV with a capacity of 7.5 MWp to utilize the roof area of its facilities.

Meanwhile, other projects that will also be worked on by the company are Ground Mounted Solar PV with a capacity of 1.1 MWp, Biomass & RDF Power Plant, and Off Power Plant which is designed to utilize waste gas as an energy source.

Then, KCE is also preparing the development of blue and green hydrogen technology as an effort to diversify energy in the future.

The acquisition of KCE by Chandra Asri Group in 2023 is part of the company’s commitment to support business expansion in the renewable energy sector.

The company’s targets include reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which are in line with the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) target and the Long Term Strategy for Low Carbon and Climate Resilience 2050 (LTS-LCCR) vision.

“We are optimistic about this contribution, both to increase green energy capacity in Indonesia and to meet the government’s renewable energy target of 23 percent by 2025,” he added.
