President Prabowo Subianto met with U.S. Presiden Joe Biden at the White House in Washington DC, on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, discussing measures to strengthen bilateral relations as both nations see 75 years of diplomatic relationship this year.
In his remark, President Prabowo expressed his gratitude to President Biden for the invitation. He also appreciated friendly and strong relationship between Indonesia and the U.S. that has lasted long since Indonesia’s struggle for independence.
“The United States is a very good friend of us. The U.S. supported us in our struggle for independence and helped us a couple of time when we needed. Therefore, I will strive to strengthen the relationship between Indonesia and the U.S.,” Prabowo said.
On the other hand, President Biden reiterated the importance of the commemoration of 75 years of diplomatic relationship between the US and Indonesia, suggesting that the partnership between the two countries is stronger than before.
“I am proud that the partnership between our countries are the strongest ever and today we will discuss on how to continue the partnership,” Biden said.
The U.S. president identified several focus of cooperation, including strengthening free and open Indo-Pacific region, support clean energy transition in which Indonesia has important role in its campaign and develop safe and strong supply chain.
President Biden also reiterated the importance of comprehensive strategic partnership that covers deeper security cooperation between the two countries.
