Minister of Communication and Digital Application, Meutya Hafid, announced collaborations with global tech giants U.S.’s Microsoft and Russia’s Yandex Group to advance Indonesia’s artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem.
She praised both companies for their interest in investing in Indonesia, emphasizing the strategic role AI can play in driving the nation’s digital progress.
Meutya met with Yandex Search CEO Aleksander Popovskiy and Microsoft’s Head of ASEAN Government Affairs, Maciej Surowiec, in a recent meting in Jakarta.
The discussions focused on the potential of AI development to foster economic growth, with a projection that AI could boost Indonesia’s GDP by 12 percent or US$366 billion by 2030.
Yandex, known as one of Europe’s largest tech companies, has plans to expand its search engine platform in Indonesia.
The company provides a range of digital services, including AI, digital advertising, and transportation solutions.
Meutya expressed strong support for Yandex’s plans to expand in the region, noting its potential to significantly impact the Indonesian economy.
The meeting with Microsoft followed commitments made by CEO Satya Nadella during his visit to Indonesia in April 2024.
Microsoft’s engagement aims to empower the public sector, support community development, and ensure information security, underscoring its dedication to strengthening Indonesia’s AI capabilities.
These partnerships highlight Indonesia’s commitment to becoming a leader in digital transformation and AI technology in Southeast Asia.
